It was originally named after the famous Gold Nugget (Peacock Gold Nugget) weighing 179 ounces, found by prospector H W Peacock in 1912 at Kaapsche Hoop near Barberton. Barberton is well known for it's Gold Mining activities, as well as the ancient rock formations dating back millions of years, and the Barbeton Daisy which was discovered here in 1884 by Robert Jameson, after whom the Daisy was named 'Gerbera Jamesonii'.

Location: Barberton is a small town in Mpumalanga, about 40km to Nelspruit and about 46km to the new Mbombela 2010 Soccer Stadium. This beautiful little town is close to the Swaziland Border (Josefsdal) and en route to Mozambique, the warm springs of Badplaas are only 70km away, on the scenic Route 38 through the mountains.
