Caledon Villa was built in 1912 in the architectural style of the Edwardian Era and due to its exceptional beauty, it has been declared a National Monument. It was originally planned to provide for a very large family and fortunately so, because today it still has many rooms, enough for the descendants of the same family and for many guests ! Apart from being the home of the Kriges, the facilities for guests have been gradually expanded since 1992 to accommodate a maximum of 25 visitors. These are provided for in three single rooms, nine double rooms, one studio and one suite. All rooms have en suite bathrooms
Each room has been decorated individually, most of them with furniture matching the period 1880 to 1930. Many of the older pieces are family heirlooms and with the high ceilings and beautiful fire places, many visitors describe the interior as a museum in usage. Neethling Street has its own attractions and truly represents Stellenbosch in its diversity of cultural and natural assets. Situated at its northern end is the Conservatorium of Music which has regular concerts. Between these two landmarks are the Botanical Gardens and a number of old houses, among which Caledon Villa stands out as a gem from its era.
