The Rest Camps in the Kruger Park
Berg-en-Dal
The
buildings in Berg-en-Dal Rest Camp are set within natural bush and the
gardens planted with flowering shrubs and aloes, leaving much of the
natural habitat unchanged within the camp. Berg-en-Dal is one of the
newest camps in the Kruger National Park and offers visitors
outstanding accommodation and facilities.
Pretoriuskop
The camp is also one of the oldest in the Kruger National Park and
accommodation ranges from fully equipped guesthouses to basic bungalows
with just 2 beds and a basin.Top-of-the-range lodging includes the
Pierre Joubert and the Doherty Bryant guesthouses.
Lower Sabie
A
range of accommodation is available from a luxurious guesthouse to
family cottages, huts, bungalows, safari tents and campsites. A recent
innovation at Lower Sabie Camp has been the addition of dreamily
romantic, semi-luxury two-bedded tents, positioned so as to secure
intimate privacy for each one. Each has its own small bathroom and
kitchenette, and some have the added advantage of a river view.
Satara
Satara
Camp is the Kruger National Park's third biggest rest camp, providing
accommodation for more than 400 guests in huts arranged in seven
concentric circles, facing inwards in protective laager fashion.
Sitting on the veranda of your hut at night, encircled by flickering
campfires and listening to the king of beasts roar his presence, is a
never-to-be-forgotten experience.
Skukuza
Skukuza is the Kruger National Park's largest rest camp and administrative headquarters.
It is situated on the southern banks of the Sabie River. The camp is
well foliaged and there are some lofty trees along the rivers edge.
Activities and facilities are diverse, as are the animals and plants
found both within the camp and in the surrounding areas.
Olifants
Guests
to Olifants will be exposed to an unforgettable window of Africa. The
camp is situated on top of a hill towering several hundred feet over
the river of the same name. Views from the lookout platforms allow a
person to observe the river below just like what a soaring eagle must
see. The camp is warm and becoming and will win many staunch supporters.
Letaba
The
idyllic Letaba Rest Camp is situated on a sweeping bend of the Letaba
River, midway between the southern and northern boundaries of the
Kruger National Park, South Africa. At Letaba Camp you can choose
between a guest house, cottage, bungalow, hut or a furnished safari
tent, as well as camping and caravan sites.
Mopani
Completed
in 1992, Mopani Camp is the newest of all Kruger National Park rest
camps. Inside Mopani camp indigenous vegetation has been left largely
untouched while newly planted trees have been laid out along the camp's
tarred roads.
Shingwedzi
In
the midst of a peaceful clearing along the Shingwedzi River, set within
two adjacent rings are the camp's accommodation bungalows and its
luxury guesthouse. The inner 'A-ring' consists of 31 huts consisting of
the original wattle-and-daub buildings set up in 1933 which have been
carefully remodelled to suit the varying comforts of visitors. Most
come with three beds and as well as a two bedded loft and are fitted
with air-conditioning, fans, en-suite bathrooms and a verandah.
Punda Maria
Punda
Maria Camp lies in an area of fascinating history and unsurpassed bird
watching. It also recognized as the best region inside the Park in
which to spot the often shy Nyala Antelope. Punda Maria has recently
been upgraded and has received seven luxury tents and a swimming pool.
Punda Maria Gate has received a new building, reception area and
ablution blocks.
